DHC GP Federation Chairman retires, paving the way for a new era of leadership

Dr Jonathan Richards, a founding member of Dorking Healthcare (DHC) in 2004 and Chairman of the Board of Directors since its formation, has announced his retirement, effective 1 February 2024.

He will be succeeded by Dr Stewart Tomlinson, Medical Director at DHC and GP Partner at Medwyn Surgery in Dorking. Dr Tomlinson has been a DHC Board member since its inception.

DHC began with a mission to improve NHS healthcare at Dorking Hospital for the benefit of the community. During Dr Richards’ tenure, these values have remained at the heart of the organisation, with a focus on finding innovative solutions that deliver real improvements. Growth and development have followed, and DHC is now successfully providing high-quality healthcare right across Surrey in primary care, community health, outpatients and mental health.

“Jonathan is an exceptional leader with vision and drive. He has dedicated himself to raising standards. Jonathan leaves DHC in a position of strength. I would like to personally thank him for his unwavering support and wish him all the best in his retirement.”

DHC Chief Executive Officer, Michael Arnaud

As Dr Richards bids farewell, Dr Tomlinson is well-placed to take the role of Chairman. He brings a wealth of experience and a track record in making great strides in improving local healthcare. For example, as Diabetes Lead for Surrey Heartlands, he delivered a £4M transformation project to improve diabetes patient education and clinical care which took Surrey to one of the highest performing healthcare systems in England. The Board is confident that the Federation will continue to thrive and achieve new heights.

To ensure that DHC is well-equipped to continue moving forward in challenging times for the NHS, there have also been changes to the responsibilities of some Board members. This is largely to allow Directors to shape initiatives that run across the Federation as well as to ensure a seamless leadership transition.

“I am so proud of all that DHC has achieved from those early beginnings in Dorking to the Surrey-wide organisation we have become. The commitment and hard work of our people and their passion for providing great healthcare has been wonderful to see and I am grateful to the shareholders, Board of Directors and all our staff, past and present. I would like to congratulate Stewart on his appointment and I know that together with a strong Board of Directors, DHC is in good hands.”

“I’m delighted to be appointed Chairman of the Board. This year marks our 20th anniversary, which is such a fantastic milestone, and I look forward to working with all our talented people to build on what has been achieved.”

The Board and staff at DHC extend their best wishes to Dr Richards in his well-deserved retirement and offer a warm welcome to Dr Tomlinson as he assumes his new role.
